Another New York fashion week has come and gone this February. We got to see and meet so many amazing established designers this season. As we sit back and reflect on how high fashion influences the mass - our sisters, mothers, friends, you know, the fashion unaware - we thought we’d share with our take on trends that we saw on the runway for fall 2015.
Platforms: We saw lots of amazing shoes go down the runway. But one thing that kept creeping up (pun intended) was the resurgence of this 90’s grunge shoe. We were excited to see the likes of Nanette Lepore and Malan Breton both apply thick creeper-esque platforms to their Sperry shoes to give them a little more edge to contrast their more elegant looks. These have always been a fashion blogger favorite, so we couldn’t be happier.
Bangs: Sometimes hair can definitely get crazy on the runway. But this year, things were very minimalist and streamline, with designers opting to cut clean lines into the girl’s hair. Following in the vein of designers like Marc Jacobs, this meant that there were lots of severe bangs, like those seen at Chris Gelinas show. This sleek look will definitely compliment the creepers and give you a little edge when fall and winter come around in 2015.
Duck Boots: Boots are always a fall staple, and this year designers took a more utilitarian approach to their footwear. Comfortable footwear is the modern approach to fashion. Designers like Rubin & Chapelle showed Sperry duck boots, boots with rubber toes for mudding in the water, with some of their modern women’s clothing to juxtapose the masculine with the feminine. We love the different take on normal fall leather boots, adding a bit more ruggedness to our future looks.
Creative Suits and Workwear: Designers are definitely redefining workwear for women. Spearheaded by Nanette Lepore’s #poshrebel, we saw some hyper-feminine blazers with edgy cuts paired with skirts and wide legged trousers. All of these were shown in amazingly vibrant colors. Marissa Webb’s debut at Banana Republic was also marked with a similar rebel feel to the more traditional label, injecting some much needed youth into women’s suits and workwear.
Earthy Tones: For Fall/Winter, we often see a darkening of color tones. This year, with the announcement of Marsala as the color of the year, designers took note that earth tones will definitely be a hot commodity. Designers like Eric Rosette of Mr. Triple X and Chris Gelinas chose lots of variations on browns and taupes accented with deep crimsons and greens. Rubin and Chapelle went on a similar route with the greens, but also added mixes of burnt oranges. But when Naomi Campbell walked the finale dress of the Zac Posen show, a sparkly, deep, marsala infused princess gown, we all knew that these earthy tones would be the colors of the season.

While we are sad that fashion week has passed and we are now back to the grind of things, we are glad to be in the warm and sunny California (it was 0 degrees when we left NYC!). But, lets face it, we’d brace any sort of inclement weather to go to fashion week. And we can’t wait till next time!
